We are pleased to announce Piper’s Heath in partnership with our team of coaches will be opening a Golf Development Center for the 2011 season and beyond.
What is a Golf Development Centre and why are they needed?
The GDC is designed for two main purposes:
1. Provides junior golfers between the ages of 6 – 18 a clear golf developmental pathway with proper coaching support.
The structure of the centre resembles a pyramid, where the goal is to have a large base of players, with programs getting smaller, more specialized, and more advanced towards the top of the pyramid. Golf is now an event in the 2016 Olympics and as such it is considered as a high performance sport. Much like other sports such as swimming, skiing, or hockey, athletes must have a clear concept of the pathway available to develop skills to their highest potential. Golf Development Centre’s will provide athletes with full service coaching and training opportunities for all stages of their development.
2. Creates golf coaching opportunities for CPGA members with NCCP coach designation.
Currently, there are very few golf coaches who exist in Ontario when compared to other competitive sports. Increasing the number of Golf Coaches will be imperative for developing better Canadian golfers.
GDC’s will also create more opportunities for new coaches to apprentice under more experienced Head Coaches.
All GDC’s are certified through the Golf Association of Ontario (GAO) and are the recommended development pathway for all junior golfers in Ontario.
